Entry requirements
There are no formal academic prerequisites for SA015. However:
• Learners should have sufficient literacy to follow the course and complete assessments
• Under the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA), at least one person on any live highway site must hold the appropriate Street Works qualification(s). SA015 is designed to sit alongside those requirements and assumes that NRSWA will be covered by a suitably qualified person on site.
Previous experience in civils or utilities work is helpful but not essential.

• Specialist telecoms & utilities centre – training delivered in a dedicated environment, not a generic classroom
• Industry-experienced instructors – trainers with real-world civils and telecoms backgrounds
• Hands-on practice – realistic training props for duct installation and slewing activities
• Flexible dates – regular open courses, with options for group or on-site delivery (subject to numbers)
• Recognised accreditation – Smart Awards programmes are aligned to National Occupational Standards and widely recognised across the sector.

Smart Awards certifications for this type of course are typically valid for 3 years. After that, you’ll need to attend a refresher or re-assessment to keep your accreditation current.

Smart Awards qualifications are widely recognised by telecoms network operators, principal contractors and subcontractors across the UK. SA015 demonstrates that you have been trained and assessed against nationally recognised standards for duct laying and slewing.
