Description
IPAF Spotter training is designed to support individuals who assist with the safe operation of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) on site. Delivered in line with guidance from the International Powered Access Federation, the course focuses on the role of the spotter (or banksman) in maintaining awareness of surroundings, guiding operators, and helping prevent accidents. Spotters play a critical role in ensuring safe movement of MEWPs, particularly in busy or restricted environments.
The training covers key responsibilities such as clear communication, use of hand signals, and hazard awareness. Participants learn how to identify risks like overhead obstructions, ground instability, and nearby personnel, and how to relay this information effectively to the operator. Emphasis is placed on maintaining constant vigilance and positioning themselves correctly to have full visibility of the work area, ensuring that operations run smoothly and safely at all times.
